BUTTERFLY BLOOD
A Haunting Series with Shocking Twists
Metamorphosis Book 2
BY REBECCA CARPENTER
Blurb
HER BLOOD. HER LOVE. HER FREEDOM.
“How many of my sins will have to be paid for in blood?”
Sixteen-year-old Bethany Keatley finally has the healthy body and looks she’s always desired. But the price she’s had to pay has left her traumatized.
The only thing making her battle on is the memory of that kiss with Jeremiah.
Now miles from him and living in Florida with an aunt she’s never met, shocking revelations about her parents are too much to bear. After collapsing from exhaustion and shock, Bethany wakes in a hospital bed awaiting test results—results that might lead to the discovery of her unusual butterfly blood.
But that’s the least of Bethany’s concerns when the doctor informs her she’s infected with a parasite and without immediate treatment she’ll die.
Too young to refuse and too weak to fight back, Bethany’s life once again hangs in the balance. Yet her scientific knowledge and suspicious nature lead her to unravel a horrifying web of lies.
Will nature intervene again, demanding another payment?
In this stunning sequel to the award-winning BUTTERFLY BONES, Rebecca Carpenter raises the stakes and offers up an intense and heartbreaking ride that will leave you shocked to the core.

MARINARA TO MURDER FOR
1/3 cup olive oil
1 tablespoon minced dried garlic
1 tablespoon dried sweet basil
1 tablespoon dried parsley
1 32 oz. jar of stewed tomatoes (homemade) or 2 16oz jars of Italian stewed tomatoes
1/3 tsp. salt
1/3 tsp. pepper
Heat olive oil and sauté garlic until golden brown. Add basil, parsley, tomatoes, salt, and pepper and simmer for 20 minutes.
*For a thicker sauce, add 1 jar of favorite store brand marinara.
This recipe can be used as is, over any of your favorite pasta, or it can be used as a base for spaghetti or meat sauce.
My favorite is angel hair pasta with vegetable marinara.
After the garlic is golden brown, I add vegetables and the other spices to sauté before adding the tomatoes. This includes bell pepper, onion, mushrooms, and black olives. Add the tomatoes, salt, and pepper and simmer for 20 minutes. Top with parmesan and enjoy!

Thanks, Rebecca, for sharing your book with us!
Don’t miss the chance to read this book!
Thank you for hosting me, Karen! I’m honored to be a guest and to share my book and favorite recipe.
Good morning, Rebecca, and welcome to Karen’s Killer Fixin’s. I’m intrigued by the premise of your story! I have a granddaughter I’m always on the lookout for with YA. 🙂 Thanks for sharing your book and marinara sauce with us today!
Thank you! I would recommend book one, Butterfly Bones, first, as it is a series, but I think your granddaughter will love them!
Thanks for the tip, Rebecca!
Holy Cow! What a great premise! Must get book one and this, too!
Thanks, Karen for the introduction and, thanks, Rebecca!
Thank you, Kathleen! I hope you enjoy them! I do recommend reading book one first. Due to the unique premise of the books, my publisher and I had a difficult time coming up with comps. We finally decided on a retelling of Beauty and the Beast meets The Fly. And while this is YA, most of my readers have been women over 30, but I’ve also had a handful of men read and enjoy the books. Thank you for your interest! I hope you get to try out the marina recipe…it’s delish!
Chilling! Not sure about the name of the butterfly. Maybe Vanessa Virginiensis?
Close!
I’ll give a hint… “pearl”
Phyciodes tharos
Second hint … “small pearl”
The binomial name sounds like a girl’s name and just happens to be my main character’s name, but she goes by her nickname. And since this is difficult, I’ll throw in a few goodies with the book!
Good guess.
But not the binomial I’m looking for.
Second hint “small pearl”
The binomial name could be a girl’s name and just happens to be my main character’s first and middle name, although she goes by her nickname.
Since this is a difficult question, I’ll throw in some goodies with the book for the first one to comment with the correct name. Good luck!
Boloria selene
Yay, Mary Anne Edwards! You found the correct binomial name, Boloria selene, which is the name of my main character, and the species is a costar in my books.
Please email me at cbcarpenter@bresnan.net with your address so I may send you your prizes.
Thank you to everyone who played along!
interesting recipe title
It’s that good!
Vanessa Annabella?
Thanks for sharing your book with us 😍❤😍 Thanks for the chance
I think its the other one though but it sort of looks like a Vanessa Cardui too or a Vanessa Atalanta
Those are great guesses. Soooo close. The “small pearl” clue has to do with the underside of the wing—or more specifically, the border.
And the initials are B.S.
