Karen’s Killer Fixin’s: Banana Bourbon Bread Pudding


It’s time for Karen’s Killer Fixin’s! Over the years, I’ve filled two 4-inch, 3-ring binders with my own creations as well as recipes my family and friends were willing to share with me. I simply love to cook and want to share that love with my readers. So every Friday, I share one recipe I think you and your family might enjoy. It might be a main course recipe. A cookie or baked item. Candy. Salads. Whatever strikes my eye and fancy…which today is BANANA BOURBON BREAD PUDDING!

If you’re looking for an unusual, decadent dessert to spring on your significant other for that special Valentine’s Day dinner, look no further. This recipe is perfect for those who love bread pudding…with a twist. Blend together all of the elements for a romantic treat.

Karen’s Killer Fixin’s Blog

[Serves 8]

1 loaf French bread cut into 1-in. pieces
2 large eggs
½ cup packed dark brown sugar
1 T. vanilla
¼ tsp. ground nutmeg
1 qt. milk
¼ cup bourbon
½ cup golden raisins
2 large firm-ripe bananas
Confectioner’s sugar
Nonfat frozen yogurt (optional)
½ cup bottled caramel topping

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. On baking dish, dry out bread in oven 10 minutes. In large bowl, whisk eggs, brown sugar, vanilla, nutmeg, milk and bourbon. Add bread and raisins. Let stand 45 minutes. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Slice bananas ½ inch thick; add to bread mixture. Pour into 2½ quart baking dish. Cover with aluminum foil. Bake 45 minutes; remove foil. Bake 20 minutes, until set. Cool 10 minutes. Dust with sugar. Serve with frozen yogurt and topping.
