He saved her life once
Can he do it again?
Fern Hensley, a guarded loner, wakes up in the hospital with amnesia. All she can recall is smoke, flames and Ryan Colton, the courageous firefighter who rescued her from the inferno. Her trapped memories are the key to finding her kidnappers. She won’t be safe until she unlocks them, and Ryan feels compelled to shelter her while she endures the trauma of remembering. Driven by his own haunted past, Ryan quickly realizes that his need for atonement isn’t the only thing compelling him to protect Fern. But as danger closes in and sparks ignite between them, can Ryan find absolution…and keep Fern alive?

A handsome, sexy firefighter is determined to protect the amnesiac woman he rescued from being burned alive by her kidnappers in a fiery shack.
That’s the premise behind my latest Colton book, Colton’s Firestorm. Ryan Colton saved Fern Hensley from a roaring blaze in an old wood shack where her kidnappers left her to die. Traumatized by the experience, she has no memory.
Colton Firestorm is Book 4 of Harlequin’s Romantic Suspense series the Coltons of Dark Canyon. Set in the dramatic, imposing landscape of Utah, the book delves into the mystery behind Fern’s abduction, and Ryan’s own past trauma in failing to save someone. Fern doesn’t trust easily. A recovering alcoholic and loner, she has successfully overcome a toxic childhood to become her own independent person. The kidnapping makes her realize someone is after her and will not stop until she is dead.
Fern was a challenging character to write. She has past trauma from a childhood she’d rather forget. Ryan is drawn to her strength, dignity and fierce survival instincts. He wants to protect her from those who would hurt her again, but it will take courage and help from the Colton family to discover those who wish to kill Fern.
As a firefighter, one of Ryan’s chores is cooking at the firehouse. Often firefighters eat together on a shift. Ryan would enjoy the recipes from my late sister-in-law, who was an excellent cook. Sissy could turn out savory dishes that would please a house filled with hungry firefighters. At Christmas, she would create a feast for her family. Sadly, she died several years ago, but she left me a wonderful gift – a booklet of her favorite recipes. I’ll share with you a classic: See Recipe Below.
Bonnie Vanak is a multi-published author of contemporary romantic suspense for Harlequin. She also has published paranormal and historical romance novels. After a career in journalism, she became a writer for an international charity, traveling to poor countries like Haiti to write about issues affecting the poor. When the strain of her job demanded a diversion, she turned to her childhood dream of writing books. Bonnie lives in Florida with her husband and one rescue dog.
