“Puzzles? This is your doing, isn’t it, Quentin?” Jessamyn held the letter with the question mark seal and waved it theatrically at Quentin, who was trying to hide a smirk. “After all that just happened you want us to host the wretched Rhyfedd?”

Quentin nodded sheepishly. “It …it will be good for morale—show that P.A.W.S. was not broken by the fire.”

“Oh poppycock! You just want a new audience to inflict those wretched puzzles on. Well, I want nothing to do with the planning, okay? You do it. I for once want a quiet summer, not one basked in enigmas.”

“If you say so, dear,” said Quentin.

“I remember, you know? When I was about eight years old my uncle came to the Inis Fraoigh. Much to my mother’s chagrin, he whisked me away from the island to Wales where I sat bored for a month while these warlock types contemplated long parchments with squiggles on them. I spent the whole time in one corner outside my Uncle Gromer’s cave building myself a dollhouse out of twigs and imagination.”

“I promise, Jessa, I will do everything. You can have the summer off as planned.”

Debbie Manber Kupfer grew up in the London. She has lived in Israel, New York and North Carolina and somehow ended up in St. Louis. She lives with her family including two very opinionated felines.

She works as a writer, editor, and puzzle constructor. She is the author of the young adult fantasy series, P.A.W.S. which features a secret international organization of shapeshifters.

She has also written several children’s picture books including Adana the Earth Dragon and Esmeralda Grunch and the Red Tulip. She is the editor of the Sins of Time horror series and has stories in anthologies including Fauxpocalypse, 13 Candles, and Corvid19.

When not writing or editing fiction she writes puzzles for Penny Press magazines and has also published a book of puzzles, Paws 4 Logic with her son, Joey.

She believes that with enough tea and dark chocolate you can achieve anything!

TOFURKY FLORENTINE MINI LUNCH PIZZA

NOTE FROM DEBBIE: I created this one lunchtime just from random ingredients I had around the house. It tasted awesome! I’m vegetarian so I used Tofurky – but you could substitute a lunch meat if you’re a carnivore.

Start with a whole wheat pita bread for the base. Spread it with pesto sauce.

Next add a layer of spinach leaves and chopped mushrooms

Add some circles of Tofurky ham.

Top with shredded cheddar cheese, oregano, and parsley.

Microwave the pita for one minute.

In a small frying pan fry a single fried egg and place it on top.

Enjoy!
